I thought I was following my dream of being a fine craft artist but I was struggling with so much. I knew I needed to make a change. I thought I was doing what I wanted to do, which was selling my handmade items at craft and art shows. I wasn’t even remotely satisfied or fulfilled, and I often considered quitting and doing something else.
But it was so many other people’s dream job that I thought there was something wrong with me, and I wasn’t grateful enough for what I already had. I had such elaborate goals and dreams but it was difficult to see the steps to actually reach my goal.
The first time I took B-School, it opened my eyes to so many new things. I found myself writing out all these goals that were way above and beyond what I thought I was even capable of doing. I used this information to make more money, and to change how I thought about my customers and how I present myself.
I’m really thankful Marie Forleo allows her students to retake the course because that’s when many of the big changes happened for me. I retook the course while I was dealing with health issues following a difficult pregnancy.
After our daughter was born I again revisited my original B-School coursework and started to make a long-term plan of action on how to accomplish these goals. From that point forward, the significant life-altering changes began to rapidly take form:
I am at the point now where I want to gain financially, to be able to afford to take some time off, pay off any debt, and start putting away money for our future. In the past, financial gains and rewards were never our top priority as it was always more about bringing our creative visions to life, investing in our business and generating new ideas for items or projects. It was hard to even imagine being able to pay the bills and mortgage with just my little handmade business and even harder to imagine my husband working full time with me. But we did it! So I know I can use my B-School skillset to push the envelope financially. We are not the same people, our attitude is not the same, our lives are not the same, and even the people we call our friends are not the same.
I was hesitating to share my story about how B-School had changed my life because it seemed almost too outlandish that my life could change this much over an online course. But what I realized while taking this course over again was that there was so much more to my passions and who I am meant to be. It didn’t happen overnight and it took a lot of effort but I made my goals, stuck with them, continuously learned and made all of these changes in just under four years!

I’ve always been a creative person and shied away from the actual “business” side of my business; anything to do with numbers and projections, marketing and funnels I wanted nothing to do with. Before I joined B-School, I’d been selling ornaments mostly on eBay and Etsy to make a little bit of extra money around Christmas time. I think in my first year I made like negative $3,000. It was kind of an expensive hobby. I even had someone close to me say, "That's really cute what you're doing, but it's probably time that you get a real job."
A year and a half into it, my husband had a motorcycle accident and passed away. I became a widow. I had not graduated college and had been a stay-at-home mom with no career for my entire adult life.
At that point, I had a decision to make. I had two kids. They were three and seven years old. I wanted to continue to be a stay-at-home mom and turn my little ornament business into something that could support us. Should I continue trying to do this expensive hobby? Or go get a “real job” and put my kids into daycare and after school care?
It seemed like a crazy decision, but I decided to go for my ornament business. I enrolled in B-School and promoted a new idea to my audience. On opening day I sold about 340 memberships within just a few hours. I sold out of all the product I had!

We are now at over 3,000 members. In 2015, I had my first 6-figure year. In 2018, we reached our first 7 figure year and I have a 10-person team now.

I always knew that I wanted to start a business and have the opportunity to work for myself (at the time I was working part-time in public relations). When you're really rural there’s no cell phone service and only satellite internet. During the day, there's enough bandwidth to check your email, but you can't download anything or stream video. But at night they open up the bandwidth, so from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. you have more bandwidth available.

Our purpose-driven business focuses on teaching at-risk high school students how to enjoy life in the outdoors through surfing, wake surfing, wakeboarding, and standup paddle boarding, which facilitates their personal growth and excitement for life by participating in sports that they normally would not have access to.
A few months before I started B-School, I was struggling with what I wanted to do with my life. My husband and I had recently closed our surf and skate shop after eight long, painful years with no direction and zero financial gain. Within months of closing, we were finally financially secure and had the flexible schedules that we dreamed of, but we lacked passion for what we were doing.
On the outside, everything looked great; I was a paralegal while my husband went from a high-profile job as a cool surf and skate shop owner to a process server who served people eviction paperwork. Even though the money and schedule was on point, we were both empty inside. We lacked motivation and didn’t have any goals. We were just living the day-to-day routine like everyone else in Silicon Valley. My husband had always worked hard NOT to be like everyone else, yet we found ourselves doing what everyone else was doing: I was working the 9 to 5, he was bustling our kids around to different practices and games, we were rarely spending time together as a family, and we were completely unsatisfied. We knew we needed a change.
Enter B-School! My husband encouraged me to go big with my allergy-free food blog, so I joined B-School to make it thrive. I worked on weeks of assignments. However, it still didn’t feel “right.” It was never the thing that just completely clicked. We eventually considered buying a baby boutique and even buying into a fitness studio franchise, but kept returning back to our surf and skate shop and thought, “Why would we pay someone else for a business when we already have one that we can reinvent?”
One morning, I noticed that a prime commercial space in a busy downtown area was available. Within hours, I had the property manager on the phone, and we were negotiating the space. My husband and I seriously debated opening our surf and skate shop again, but wanted to do it the right way. What would be different about the shop this time around? I was armed with B-School, we obtained a small business loan, worked on projections and bookkeeping, and hired a business coach/CPA.
Now we are over a year into our new (yet old) business that is now thriving. We were profitable from the moment we opened our doors. We have already beat every projection that we had, and the primary reason is because we did not base our retail business on retail; we knew better than that. We created a very beautiful, carefully curated store and now use it as our headquarters and home base for the fun and services that we provide during every season of the year. In the fall and spring, we host after school skateboarding programs on campus at local elementary schools. In the spring and summer, we teach week-long surf, wake surf, wakeboard, and SUP summer camps. All year long we provide our in-house, boutique-style screen printing services.
Our old store was dark, gloomy, and we dreaded going to work. Our new store is beautiful, open, simple, modern, and perfect because we have pinpointed our ICA down to the shoes he wears. Every last detail has been thought of on our sales floor. It shows how much my husband and I have grown as a couple and a family, from the first time we opened in 2005 after the birth of our first child, to the reopening of our new shop in 2016, after the birth of our fourth.

I was born and raised in the Wagner Projects in Spanish Harlem. I started my bespoke cake business after B-School, and it’s grown tremendously since. I owe a great deal of my success to what I've learned in the program.
I just added a service called The Cupcake Carriage, which is a mobile bakery set up for cupcake decorating workshops and birthday parties for kids. We launched the service in June and it took off faster than we would ever have imagined!
A few months ago, I received an email from a woman who still lives in Wagner Projects. She was the first person who purchased the biggest package I offer. I was so excited to get the purchase, but even more excited to read her email. She wrote that she went all out (making this huge sacrifice), because she wanted her daughter to see what a successful business woman looks like from Wagner. I was so moved by this I cried.
Her party took place yesterday. It was a full-circle experience for me. It was weird to see where I grew up because it wasn't a good time for me. But these little girls treated me like a celebrity. They were so excited to take pictures with me, so excited to have me there.
At the end of the party, the birthday girl hugged me and asked if she could take a picture with me. She thanked me for the party and said, “My mom told me you grew up in the same building where I live. I want to have a business like you one day.”
I am to that little girl what you were to me, Marie. I can't wait to inspire many other little girls from the hood. There's a lot of passion there, they just need the tools. Thank you for helping them see what’s possible.

I use everything I’ve learned in B-School starting up my very own Cut Flower Farm, where I grow mainly dahlias – in Alaska I might add. What started as a dream I’d do “after” I made it big has become a profitable, thriving business. Before B-School I bounced around from one online business to the next trying to find that one business that I could help other plus fill my heart and my bank account at the same time.
When I sold my first bouquet I was hooked! Seeing the customer’s face light up or a bride with tears telling you her flowers are JUST what she envisioned.
My first season I profited a little over $2000 — which isn’t too bad since we only have a growing season of about three months. The next season we doubled that. And this next year I expect to reach 6 figures as I’ve added an engagement photo and wedding destination venue. I’ve also managed to keep my business debt free which fills me with great pride.

I own a small and growing, diversified farm. Before B-School I knew I had a great thing going – business sales were doubling every year. But… I was scattered, overworked, unfocused, didn’t know exactly who to market to so I tried to reach everyone. I plateaued in my sales because I lacked the focus, skills, and the mental and emotional states to continue to do what I needed to grow the business. And I needed to grow to reach a sustainable income.
Thanks to B-School, my gross sales continue to expand steadily. Due to the income I’ve been able to continue building the business – expand our farm from 5 acres to 75 acres, purchase the necessary equipment to do so, purchase the livestock to fill projected sales. When I took B-School I was set to make $100,000 in sales. By the end of the next year we will be at least at $200,000.
I now have the resources to continue to expand. I now have 4 employees that I pay very well compared to other farm laborers. I can finally stop work at 5:00 PM and stick to that. We take Sundays off from anything but basic work that needs to be done to keep the animals alive. We travel regularly – 2 weeks in the summer and a week at spring break, a few days here and there throughout the year. I didn’t take a vacation the first 4 years of my business!! Now I’m always planning the next one thanks to B-School. And we have the income to buy pretty much anything we want. I never had this in the past – scrimped and was VERY cheap my whole life!!

I bought a yoga studio from someone else and I was about six months in and just dumping money into it. I had no idea what I was doing and felt completely frustrated because I was trying to prove to my family that this business could actually work. I didn’t know anything about business or how to reach the people I wanted to reach.
I was feeling really defeated and like I had made a huge mistake by asking my parents and my husband to put money into the studio. I was working like crazy. I am also a physical therapist, so I was doing that full time to support the money pit of the studio. I really thought I wouldn’t be able to turn it around. I had a total breakdown when my husband and I went away on our honeymoon. I was consumed during our whole honeymoon (poor hubby) that I wouldn’t be able to make the studio work.
My husband, while supportive, would say things like, “Well, owning a studio is cheaper than a MBA,” so I know he was frustrated as well. My mom was afraid I was too stressed out and that I was going to make myself sick with how much I was working. Most of my friends, while I am sure they thought I was a little crazy, would always say how inspiring I was for going out on my own – and I just felt like a fraud!
I felt like I had no other options and no other help, and B-School seemed like the perfect way to get me moving forward.
After B-School – my email list went from 1,000 to 2,000 in about six months. As a brick and mortar my goal isn’t necessarily to get thousands of emails because we only have so much space. About six months after the program, I was no longer putting money into the studio. About six months after that, I started paying myself. This year, I got to quit my part-time physical therapy job and focus just on the yoga studio (and soon will be growing it into a wellness center and adding physical therapy and other health services). Every year since B-School our studio membership has almost doubled. I have the type of client I want – they buy our teacher training and workshops with no hesitation. I am now growing my team and getting to delegate now – not just having teachers on staff.
What changed most for me after B-School was having more confidence in my vision, mission, and who my people are. By getting crystal clear, I found the right people, and the studio just keeps growing.

I quit my corporate job, moved to Paris and started to work on my own business. This is when I took B-School as well, though I knew about Marie and B-School for a couple of years before that, I only took the program when decided to proceed fully with my business.
I have a Masters in Business, but when I started to think about my online business, I realized I knew nothing. Before B-School I was working both a full-time, 9-5 job and a part-time job, trying to keep up with rent and student loans. Around the same time I learned of you, Marie I had been feeling this immense urge to change my life. I didn’t know exactly how or why, but I knew something had to change. Not that my life was bad though. I liked my jobs, I had a great relationship, and was living in a city I really enjoyed. But still, something felt unsettled.
I remember sitting at my computer, sweating profusely as I hit the “pay now” button on B-School. It was the most money (that of which I didn’t truly have) I’d ever spent at one time. And I’d never before paid for any program like B-School (haven’t since, actually. I just keep enrolling in yours).
The world of online business was completely new to me but it struck a chord like nothing ever before. I’d stay up late watching your training modules and get up early before work to put the lessons into play. I’d never been more excited or exhausted in my life.
Less than a year later I quit my 9-5 job AND my part-time job, and started my own consulting and freelance business (along with a few other side-projects). I knew I wanted to work remotely so that I could travel. So I started brainstorming ways to do that. In the process I ended up coming up with the idea for the project that took me out of my apartment and moved me into a renovated G20 sports van.
Will Travel For Vegan Food was born and I set out on a solo, 2-year-long road trip to try and eat at every vegan restaurant in the US. I‘ve visited all 50 states, dined at over 547 vegan restaurants, and am soon to become a first-time published author. I mean, WOWie!!
Fast forward to today and I’m writing to you from the Big Island of Hawaii before I relocate to Chicago.
All the while Marie, it’s been you who has been a guiding and inspiring force throughout the journey that has taken place from the time I first learned of you to this moment here, as I type these words. My biggest takeaway though and what I continue to learn from you and each year of B-School – is that… wait for it.. “everything is figure-out-able.” ?
I do not report to anyone and my days are often flexible. Sometimes I work fewer hours, or take whole days off in the middle of the week to go snorkeling or lava tube hiking. Before B-School, I felt like I was trying everything to make my business succeed, but it was draining not to see results quickly. I was applying everything I was learning online, but I didn’t have a good understanding of how it all fit together so I was getting overwhelmed and letting myself get sidetracked by new shiny things all the time. I was so focused on getting my business off the ground that it was affecting my romantic relationship, big time.

I’m grateful to be a leader for women everywhere who want this kind of life for themselves. Every day I wake up to see that people from all over the world are buying our products, and I go to bed at night knowing that I’m making a difference in this world.
