I figured out how to leave my 9-5 job and start a grant/fundraising consulting business that allows me to work less hours from home.

Before I started B-School I knew what I cared about, but I had no idea what I wanted to do with it. At that time, I was feeling lost. I didn’t want to work 9-5 anymore – with three kids that was starting to feel insane – but I wasn’t 100% sure what I wanted to do. And I knew that I still needed to do something in my current field that would help support my family while I figured out what my passion pursuit would be. I needed time to invest in my own clarity and sanity, and B-School gave me that time and structure and forced me to dig deep and focus on what I really did want. Start The Right Business was transformational and led me to launch Sage Plant-Powered Health where I teach plant-based nutrition, cooking classes and workshops.

For over 25 years I have worked for non-profit charitable organizations and through B-School, I figured out how to leave my 9-5 job and start a grant/fundraising consulting business that allows me to work less hours from home so that I can devote an equal amount of time to my plant-based nutrition business. So I still have a foot in each business (and now I have to turn away consulting clients!), but because of B-School I was able to create a bridge to give me time to invest in my passion pursuit – Sage Plant-Powered Health. Through the process, I have also discovered that I love both businesses and for now investing the same amount of time and energy in both works for me, both creatively and financially.

I’ve learned to be very patient with this process and with myself. So far my biggest success has been putting together a whole-food, plant-based immersion and tour of northern Italy and having it fully subscribed! This is something I hope to do twice a year. The first trip was a powerful learning experience where I brought a small group of women to tour the Piedmont region of northern Italy and enjoy plant-based food and cooking/nutrition classes. I am insanely grateful for that experience and for B-School for helping me get to this point where I feel like I have the flexibility to focus on work that I love, the opportunity to be creatively challenged and inspired every day and the ability to make a living doing work that I really love.
